Renee Loux + John Masters Organics It's Easy Being Green

Renée Loux gets the organic treatment at John Masters' Organics salon in Soho, NYC on the TV series It's Easy Being Green.

The perception that leading a green lifestyle means patchouli oil and clothes that look like canvas sacks is a thing of the past. Green is in and can be found in some of the most unlikely places like a high-end hair salon, in the heart of SOHO in New York City.

A hair salon isn't exactly what people think of when they hear "organic" or "green". After all, it's only hair, right? So why would anyone need or want a salon to be green? For well-known New York hair stylist, John Masters, it was an easy and healthy decision.

"It didn't make sense for me to be breathing in toxic fumes and chemicals every day for years and years and years," says John Masters.

John began a line of organic hair care products out of his studio apartment in 1988. In 1994, John Masters Organics was born. Now, his all-natural, organic line is booming and his salon is recognized as the first "clean air" salon in the world.

A trip to New York is never complete without an invigorating visit to John's salon.

Renée says, "In all the years I've been coming here I'm always blown away how good it smells in here!"

John concurs, "it does smell good and it's because we only use herbal-based, ammonia-free hair colors. No perms, no nails here, nothing with a chemical odor in it, so all you smell is the essential oils in it. That way when you come in, you can actually breathe while you're in the salon. It's not only good for you, but I also like it and so does my staff.
